Originally from Argentina, Delfina Farias moved to New York to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), where she graduated in 2023 with a specialization in knitwear and a minor in Ethics and Sustainability.
Through a combination of hands-on industry experience and independent research, Delfina has developed a deep understanding of luxury knitwear design, material innovation, and sustainable production. Her work includes luxury knitwear development, published scientific research, an educational guide on Modular Design, and collaborations with inclusive fashion brands and artistic projects. These experiences have provided invaluable insight into the intricacies of the fashion industry, strengthening her expertise in both creative and technical aspects of knitwear design.

Senior Knitwear Programmer and Knitter at Knit Resort, New York City (July 2023 - Present)

Knitter: Tasks include both computerized machine knitting and hand-flat knitting machines. Other tasks include: patternmaking, producing specs, linking, mending and blocking garments.

Technician: Conducting preventive maintenance, adhering to manufacturer instructions, diagnosing irregularities, overseeing repair services, performing repair procedures, communicating with manufacturer’s technician.

Programmer: Utilizing M1 PLUS to program and engineer garments and swatches produced in Stoll machines.

Client relationships and inventory: ReCollaborate with clients to develop knitwear concepts, advise on yarn selections and fabrications, and ensure design integrity throughout production. Keeping yarn inventory from the studio and clients, organized and updated.

Design Associate at A.Potts. New York City (2023 - Present)

Design: Responsible for creating/updating design decks with the brand’s creative work. Producing graphics for the brands.

Production: Facilitating production of the collection by going to factories and sourcing points. Also sewing and creating patterns for the brand samples.

Styling: Main role is to assist with styling at photoshoots, fashion shows, trades shows. Other tasks include fixing any article of clothing that requires it and aiding models as needed.

Research Assistant for Disintegrating Cotton at Fashion Institute of Technology, New York City (2022 - 2023)

The research portion includes performing different protocols to maximize effectiveness of disintegration on a weekly basis. Other tasks include gathering, analyzing, and presenting data that is shown and reported to my three advisors.

Exhibition Designer & Collaborator for the 6876 KM Exhibit (2021)

Design Portion: My responsibilities included creating from scratch the website, purchasing domain, designing layout and other graphic design choices, cataloging the photos and description, translating and then adding the subtitles for a video in French.

Collaboration as a Fashion Designer: Created a look for the zero-waste collection featured in the exhibition. Other designers in the exhibition included Mara Hoffman and Sarah Nsikak.

WM Waste-led Design Challenge (2021 - 2022)

The design challenge supported 6 teams on their pursuit of a design solution that helped eliminate/ reduce waste. The project included an online-guide on modular design application along with two looks made out of pre- and post- consumer textile waste.

From 372 applications received, and 87 semi-finalists, Delfina’s application was 1 out of 25 that was put forward to their Partner + Donor Coach Foundation for review/ consideration.
